Why is our Vauxhall Meriva suffering a steering fault?

I purchased a 1.7 TDI Vauxhall Meriva from a trade dealer (hence no warranty) in March 2010. After about eight weeks, I was attempting to pull out of a car parking space at a local supermarket when the EPS light illuminated and I could hardly move the steering wheel. I managed to drive the car to my father's house who lived about three miles away, and soon afterwards the fault had cleared. It seems that this fault is intermittent and I got it checked at my local garage. They have run a diagnostic test and have found nothing wrong with the car, other than it required new track rod ends which were fitted. This has not cured the problem. Any suggestions as to why this occurs ?

Yes. The power steering system is an electric motor around the steering column. if the steering is held on lock, the motor burns out. You need a new power steering motor.
