The emissions fix has ruined my 2010 Audi A3 - what should I do?
I had the emissions "fix" on my 2010 Audi A3 at the end of February and had nothing but problems since. Power has been altered dramatically and even to the point of cutting out on me a few times. I've had the brake pads changed and there's a knocking noise. My car has never had any problems prior to this. I've now got smoke coming from the engine and exhaust, apparently my turbo needs replacing at a cost of £1000. I haven't taken it to Audi yet as I'm worried it will be more if I take it there and they won't link it to the emissions update.

This is typical of the fix on an older, higher mileage car that has not been maintained to a high standard. A worn EGR cannot cope with the extra soot created by the NOx emissions fix. Really, the Audi dealer who did the fix should do this free of charge. If he refuses, take the matter to Small Claims on the grounds that his interfering with your car caused soot emissions that its ageing EGR could not cope with. Good choice of engines. Some petrol engines now chain cam. Comfortable and well built interior. cheap to run 1.6 TDI. Feels very refined especially on the motorway.
