Does our 2002 Vauxhall Corsa need a new steering rack?

We have an 02 plate Vauxhall Corsa 1.2. It was three years old when we bought it and from day one, I have found the steering to have "stiction". We took it back to the Vauxhall dealer, who assured us that it was quite normal. My wife is of the opinion that it's now more noticeable. The car is just approaching 30,000 miles and has been regularly serviced. There seems to be a problem with Corsa steering racks, so do you think we should consider fitting a new rack, or is there an alternative course of action?

I'd get it checked but I wouldn't spend a lot of money replacing it unless it really bothers you, and even then I'd think twice about spending big money on an eight-year-old car.
