Need a car with good economy for driving in town

I've got a Skoda Octavia 1.6 TDI and do mainly town driving, which usually gives me 45mpg. I noticed that the Octavia (2004-2013) 1.6 diesel and the Toyota Auris hybrid (2013-) Touring both get similar Real MPG, with a respective 43-68mpg and 42.7-66mpg. Does this mean that both will provide similar economy for town driving?

Probably. My dad's has still not dipped below an average of 50mpg over bot 35,000 miles. And, of course, no timing chain, DPF, DMF problems.
