How do non-AdBlue engines comply with Euro6?

I have a 2014 BMW 530d, and it is EURO6 compliant but does NOT have the Ad blue tank. Yet my previous Audi A7 V6 diesel and other Audi 3.0 litre diesels had this technology. How is it that BMW achieve Euro 6 compliance without the tedious necessity of a separate Ad Blue tank, yet Audi find the need to have them fitted?

More efficient engines. Not every VAG 2.0 litre needs AdBlue, but its 3.0 V6 does, as do most Mercedes engines that tug along the larger cars.
