Peugeot 407 making a grating noise

I have a Peugeot 407 1.8 petrol. Good Car, smooth, 125k on clock. It developed an issue this morning; when lifting my foot completely off accelerator I can hear a 'grating' kind of sound coming from engine. Accelerate again and the noise disappears. Any idea what it could be?

If this is happening in gear (not freewheeling) it's on the overrun, which is when the drivetrain of the car is turning the engine rather than the engine turning the drivetrain. So check all drivebelts for things like the alternator, PAS pump, etc. If not the aux belt, it might be the timing belt tensioner.
