Buying a used Ford Focus - petrol or diesel?
I want to buy a 2009 Ford Focus Zetec S and I have found two models of similar spec and price. One is a 1.8 petrol the other a 1.8 diesel. I have read about issues with the DPF on diesel engines doing mostly shorter journeys. So would love some advice please as to whether this car has a DPF and which would be the better purchase.

The 1.8 petrol should have a chain cam Mazda engine, which is well worth having in a Focus. Not particularly economical, but very reliable. The 1.8TDCI is derived from the old Ford 1.6 diesel that went in the Fiesta, Escort and Sierra. Not great, but at least it won;t have a Diesel Particulate Filter.
