Which 4x4 is best for £4k?

I'm after a decent 4x4 SUV for less than £4000. I've read a few reviews and it appears the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4 are the best options. What do you think?

The CR-V 2.0iVTEC from 2001 to 2006 was the most reliable SUV ever built. The RAV wasn't. But don't expect more than about 28mpg even on a run.
