Is the Skoda TSI engine reliable?
I'm thinking of buying a used Skoda Octavia 1.4 TSI (122PS) in Elegance trim . Is the petrol engine strong enough to shift the Octavia with some 'zip'? Is it reliable?
I've read some horror stories about the TSI engine but think these problems apply to a slightly different incarnation of the TSI: am I correct?

The 1.4TSI 122 is the old chain cam iteration of the engine and they have had timing chain problems. Only a small percentage, but still potential for a problem. Far better the new Octavia with the EA211 1.2 and 1.4 belt cam TSIs with 110, 125, 140 or 150PS.
