Does the Nissan Qashqai suffer DPF problems?

I am thinking of buying a Nissan Qashqai diesel for towing my 1300kg caravan, but have concerns about the DPF. Would the 1.2 petrol engine be powerful enough or should I go with the 1.6 diesel?

The Qashqai 1.6DCI has a Renault manifold in head engine that employs the latest technology to run cleanly and keep its DPF clear. That's the one to go for. But the latest VAG EA889 are manifold in head engines too. Arrived in 2013.

I read a lot about diesel DPFs but how do I know when the fuel system is regenerating? I drive a Toyota RAV4 2.2-litre diesel. Nothing comes alight on the dash board and only once did I smell hot oil?
