Buying a diesel BMW - is the 2.0 engine reliable?

I need to replace my 15 year old Lexus IS 200. I’d like a used BMW (2014 model), either a 1 or 3 Series. However, I’d most likely go for the 2.0 diesel with an automatic ‘box.

The intention would be to keep the car long term again, however I know in the past you have had concerns regarding these engines. Have things improved or is it best to avoid as a long term car?

The problems with the N47 diesel are mainly oil related. Longlife oil changes at maybe 20,000 miles where the old oil is siphoned out leaves gunge in the sump that can eventually block the oil strainer, so any car you buy needs an immediate oil change, a fill with synthetic, then another oil change after 1000 miles to give it its best chance, as well as inspection and possible replacement of the timing chain tensioner and guides.
