Should we all buy a petrol or hybrid?

With improvements in DPF technology as in Mazda skyactiv and 1.6 Renault/Nissan diesel, do you think this has only solved one problem of many in modern diesels if the car was to be kept long term? Do you think it would be better to buy petrol or hybrid in the long run?

Yes, if you are a low to average mileage driver you'll probably be better off long-term with a small capacity turbo petrol or a hybrid. That said, I've yet to hear of problems with the Renault/Nissan/Mercedes 1.6DCI or with the Mazda 2.2 Skyactiv diesel.
