Evoque engine failure - what are my options?

I bought new Range Rover Evoque from a dealership two years ago. Last week it unexpectedly broke down. Land Rover towed it to a local garage and said oil had destroyed the engine. They've quoted £20,000 for a new engine.

I have not had it serviced in two years and was taken aback when they said its my fault and all of a sudden it's not under warranty. There were also no warning lights ever to say something wrong with oil or service needed or engine etc. It just broke down. What should I do?

Every car engine needs an oil and filter change at least every 10,000 miles or every year, whichever comes first. Some manufacturers unwisely increase this allowance, but if the car has not been serviced to the manufacturer spec then the manufacturer is entitled to void the warranty. However, there is no way that the 2.2 litre Ford diesel engine in an Evoque is worth £20k. £6k-£8k at the outside. Or get a replacement from a wreck for maybe £2k.
