Does my new Fiat Panda 4x4 have the same 4-wheel drive system as my old one?

I've just bought a new Fiat Panda 4x4 (1.24 petrol version on your advice) having been delighted with my first one which fetched a good price. That first car (a 2005 model) was labelled as being a Fiat Climbing and was a super star during some grim days this winter in Perthshire. This new one (10) is just labelled as being a Panda 4x4 and I now notice has written on the black sidepanel "Permanent 4-Wheel Drive." I understood my previous Panda moved into 4-wheel drive as and when necessary. So is this new car really permanent 4-wheel drive, and is this an improvement or a retrograde step? What about fuel consumption?

The Panda 4x4 hasn't changed, although the badging is different, it's the same car underneath with the same systems. The new words are probably just Fiat's marketing department getting overexcited!
