Why is my Fiat Panda making a ticking noise?

My Fiat Panda (2004) is making an unexplained when starting from cold. The random 'tick' or 'tut' noise sounds a bit like the fan cutting in or the air con starting. The car is five years old and has 8850 miles on the clock. It has just had a full service and has a full service history. I'm sure the noise is nothing, but I know you have a 500 1.2 (1242) so if you could help, it would be much appreciated.

They do make a few ticks and whirrs on start up. You might also get a bit of transmission layshaft noise. Mine does the same. Hasn't ever led to a problem. In fact, for a car left standing as long as six weeks at a time it's been the most reliable car I've ever had. Nothing whatsoever has ever gone wrong with it.
