BMW 5 Series - should I fit non-runflats?

I have a 2010 BMW 520SE and I've been told that I have to have fit runflat winter tyres. My son has a similar car but he has fitted ordinary winter tyres. Which is the correct option?

Both. The car comes as standard with runflats. If your son replaced the runflats with ordinary tyres then that was up to him, but extremely unwise because if he gets a puncture he will be stranded. Tyre repair kits simply do not work.
