BMW 320d - what's the best fuel and tyre combination?

After reading your glowing report of the BMW 320d ED, I have bought a one year old model. Do you think it is worthwhile using a premium fuel such as Shell's V power?

Many reports on BMWs talk of traction problems in snow but you did not mention this, despite having a photograph of your car covered in a deep layer of snow. Do you think it would be worthwhile buying a set of snow tyres on a cheap set of alloys, considering I intend to keep the car for at least five years?

Definitely. All cars are ECDC tested on the best fuel available so if you use an inferior fuel you will get poorer performance and use more fuel. There are three stages of ESC and traction control. You have to switch traction control off to get traction in snow. But yes, BMW dealers sell sets of wheels with winter tyres from about £800 a set.

Or you could permanently switch to all weather tyres such as Goodyear Vector 4 Seasons, but because the ED is on Michelin Energy Saver Plus 16-inch tyres, the Goodyears probably won't give the same fuel economy.
