Is there any research into the damage that can be caused by speed humps?

I’ve received a detailed map regarding the deployment of speed cushions and a puffin crossing to be built as a speed calming measure, due to the fact that a new development is to be built in our village. I am not against calming measures to slow vehicles, but the use of speed cushions is a cheap option. My concern is whether there are any major precedents set about the damage to road pipes and conduits, damage to vehicle wheels, response times of emergency vehicles slowing down, damage to properties and buildings and noise levels, due to vehicles driving too fast leading up to and leaving the raised humps? Any information you have collected over your many years would be a grateful insight to respond to my local council.

They are known do damage car tyres (and kill people further down the road), damage springs, damage sumps and set up tremors that destroy the foundations of the road and nearby buildings. But no proper research has ever been done because the vested interests are all in installing the humps.
