What do you think of the 2012 Vauxhall Astra 1.4T?

My wife is thinking of buying a 12-month-old Vauxhall Astra with either a 1.6 or 1.4T (turbo) petrol engine. Do you have any thoughts on these engines as regards to general reliability, specific problems, noise levels etc?

Yes. Buy the 1.4T. It's a modern, smooth, efficient chain cam engine. Do not buy the old belt cam 1.6. More positively, GM Vauxhall/Opel is about to launch a new range of highly efficient exhaust-manifold-in-head 1.2 and 1.6 petrol and 1.6 diesel engines, all chain cam.
