Are fire-damaged window seals harmful?

Just had a chat with an AA patrolman. He told us that fire-damaged window seals can kill you if you touch them.

There is a general warning that if you come across a burned out car, do not touch any of it. The effect of fire can make some of the burned components highly carcinogenic.
