Why was my whiplash payout so large?

Some time ago I had an accident when I was hit by a car while I was going round a roundabout. The other driver admitted liability because she was on her mobile phone and had not seen me. I was advised to keep a record of personal cost caused by this incident, and claim off the insurance company concerned. I put in for £92 to cover a treatment for whiplash by my osteopath and some travelling expenses. This was refused unless I attended a private hospital for an examination of the injury. If I missed the appointment I would be charged £80. I did go and the doctor sent a report to the company saying I still had soft tissue damage. The company concerned paid my osteopath £40 for a report and my GP £40 for the same even though I never even went see her. I was then awarded £1500 for my injuries when I only asked for £92. Now you can see why insurance is so expensive when they pay out money like this. By the way, the offending driver got away with a caution.

That probably explains why all the sharks claim to be able to get you a standard £3000 for whiplash injury. This is a case where the other driver should have been charged for using a mobile while driving.
