What is causing my friend's Range Rover Sport diesel to blow its turbo?

You may remember I emailed you last week about my colleague's Range Rover Sport 2.7 diesel with a blown turbo at 104,000 miles. Well the turbo has been replaced but the garage has called him to say the car is still running very badly and kicking out oil and soot. They are only going to charge him for the cost of the turbo and not the labour to fit as they are not sure that was the problem. Any ideas what could now be the issue?

If the turbo blew and the pipework supplying the oil to its bearing has not been replaced, then insufficient oil is getting to the turbo bearings and it will fail again. The pipes can get as coked up with carbon as the bearing itself.
