My Vauxhall Combo van has had ongoing DPF problems but is now out of warranty. Must I now pay for repairs?

I bought a 2007 Vauxhall Combo van from a dealer in June 2007. Two weeks later it was towed back to them as it had the engine management light on and had lost all power. When I collected the van after a day I was told all was ok, but this happened again last year. Again I was told on collection it was now sorted, but this weekend it has been towed back to the dealer, to be told that the particulate filter is on recall, but as the warranty expired in February it is not covered. Please tell me this is rubbish, as it has been an ongoing issue since the van was purchased.

Presumably it's a 1.3CDTI that uses the same FIAT engine and troublesome particulate filter as on the FIAT 500. It needs driving long distances for the DPF to regenerate. If not, it clogs and the fuel to regenerate it dribbles down into the sump and causes big problems.
