Selling a car - will it be marked down for damage?

We plan to sell our 2009 Volkswagen Tiguan next year; the car has done 57,000 miles and is in an overall good condition, with a full service history. However, some months ago my wife reversed the car into my Land Rover Defender, negligible damage to the Land Rover, but both the tailgate and rear bumper on the Volkswagen was damaged. A local body shop has recommend replacement of the dented tailgate and cracked bumper.

My question is: If we have the car repaired, will we recoup the cost of the repair through a higher sale price, or should we just sell the car as it is and not spend additional money on a vehicle we are selling?

If it was just paint, I'd say leave it. But because it involves broken and damages panels that require replacement your car will be marked down severely.
