Volkswagen 1.6 TDI - is the engine any good?

Will a Volkswagen 1.6 TDI 105ps engine be sufficiently powerful to comfortably power a Golf with a DSG box?

Just about, but it's not much fun. This is a really dull engine. Not brilliant for economy. Nor great for response. And the 7-Speed dry clutch DSG has been the subject of recalls and extended warranties almost everywhere in the World apart from Europe.
