Buying a used Audi A4 Avant - which engine is best?

I am interested in buying an Audi A4 Avant diesel. It seems that my budget should buy me a 2008 or 2009 car depending upon the mileage. I'm told that 1.9 TDI engine is very long lived, but that the early 2.0TDI cars are not. That is unless I buy the revised "common rail" engine from 2009 onwards. So what is the truth, when was the common rail engine introduced and at what age/mileage do each of these types need a cam belt change?

That is the truth. The 1.9 engine went out with the last of the B7 A4s. And the 143PS CR 2.0TDI came in with the B8 A4s. That engine does not have the oil pump problems of the previous 2.0TDI.
