What winter tyres are best for BMW 1 Series?

I have been told by one independent tyre supplier that I can fit ordinary winter/cold weather tyres to my BMW Series. However, another has said that I need run flats. Can you tell me what I should do?

You can fit either, but obviously if you get a puncture on non-runflats you are going to be stuck, whereas if you are on runflats you can carry on to a place of safety or to somewhere you can get the punctured tyre changed.
