Is my Venga's engine run in?
I bought a brand new Kia Venga 1.4 ecodynamics petrol at the end of October 2012 and have driven just over 3500 miles, mostly short trips but including one from Kent to North Yorkshire and return.
I usually drive just within the speed limit depending on road/weather/traffic conditions. Average fuel consumption is 33.8 mpg which is shocking. Dealer says it will improve when engine has bedded in. If this is true, how long will it take? If not, what redress do I have?

Car manufacturers are only legally allowed to quote figures returned from the EU test cycle, which is geared towards ascertaining the CO2 emissions of a vehicle.
A check of the Real MPG section of our site shows that the average across our readers is 37.8 mpg - it's possible your fuel economy will improve in time but the engine should be more or less run in by now.
However your short runs are the likely cause of your lower fuel economy. Longer runs tend to deliver better economy - reset your trip meter before a long motorway trip and you'll see.
Other things you can do to improve economy are to check tyre pressures and use premium fuels. There are some more tips here:
