Dealer didn’t tell me car was involved in an accident – what can I do?

Some 14 months ago I bought an approved used Vauxhall Insignia from a dealer. The car had less than 5000 miles on the clock, with a clean HPI and no details about any accidents. In July I went on a long 1000 mile journey to Europe and the car started messaging me 'service the vehicle soon' every time I attempted to exceed 60mph.

I went to the nearest Vauxhall/Opel dealer (as the vehicle was covered by European warranty) and was told the car has a problem with its turbocharger. The dealer also told me the car had been involved in a head on collision, with cracks in the radiator. They did fix the car, but told us that the dealer was clearly hiding the fact the car had been involved in an accident. What can I do?

The supplying dealer had a duty of disclosure to tell you thispart of the car's history. Because he didn't and moreover lied he is liable to refund the full cost of the ar. But you will need legal help to sue for this. See: www.honestjohn.co.uk/faq/consumer-rights/
