Cutting down from two cars to one

Age, economics and common sense has prompted us to cut down from two cars to one. Our present cars are a 2009 Honda Jazz 1.4 EX (20,000 miles) and a 2005 Mercedes SLK 200, which has covered 18,000 miles.

A new Ford Focus or Volkswagen Golf appeal to us and would be practical and perhaps a little more exciting than the Jazz - any thoughts or other suggestions?

Also, any thoughts about selling our existing cars? I'm not keen on selling privately, but would either of them be better for part exchange or auction - presumably no dealer would take them both in part exchange?

Never good to p/x two for one. Better to p/x the Jazz and put the SLK through www.sure-sell.info.

New Focus, new Golf both good, but the Golf probably wins in the 'feelgood' stakes and impresses with its perceived solidity. The 1.2 TSI 105 is enough but the 1.2 TSI 85 is quite a lot more economical.
