What do you think of the Volkswagen Up?

My wife has been offered the chance of buying a new, basic, Volkswagen Up from a main dealer for about £7000. Is this good? Are there any known drawbacks with the Up?

Colleagues tell me that the forthcoming automated manual version is disappointing.
