Should we sell our BMW X5 now or keep it?

We own a 2003 BMW X5 3-litre diesel that has done 70,000 miles. It is a fantastic car for towing our large caravan and is the most comfortable car we have ever owned for long distance driving. We would be reluctant to sell it but are concerned as to how long we can continue to get the reliability we have so far enjoyed. When should we think about changing it and what would be a good quality alternative?

I can understand it will be sad to see the BMW go after nine years. One option is to remove the swirl flaps from the inlet manifold, get the car thoroughly checked over and carry on. It's only worth about £5500. Two reasonable modern replacements would be the Hyundai Santa Fe or the KIA Sorento 2.2 R-Type diesel six speed manuals, which will tug 2500kg (autos will pull 2000kg).
