Problematic semi-auto gearbox

I have had a Corolla semi-auto for eight months. It suddenly lost power and failed to select gears. First repaired at a gearbox specialist workshop, having a gearbox, acutator and 2 ECU cards replaced, it still would not run.

After three months, they gave up and sent it to Lancaster Toyota for repair, now the car is with Toyota Garage for another 3 months, despite the fact they have taken the gearbox apart and assembled it, having tested all the parts they still could not locate the problem.

They have looked into the electrical and wiring, still in vain. Due to this I had to rent car and eventually bought another second hand car to tie me over until the Corolla is fixed.

Now I am convinced that Toyota has manufactured a faulty car that cannot be fixed. Please advise what I should do and can I demand consequential; emotional compensation from Toyota Manufacturer? Can I demand them for a repayment of the car even though I bought the car from a Garage in Kent? This saga has given me huge financial problem and the stress has caused me ill health.

The car is now 8 years old and SoGA ends at 6 years old. Basically automated manual transmissions that try to ape a driver changing gear by means of an electric clutch and actuator are not a good idea and are eventually doomed to failure.
