What should the cost of repair be?

I wondered what could be wrong with my car so I don't get quoted incorrectly by a garage (just because I am female).

I have had my car for approximately two months which was bought privately. For the last few weeks it seems to drive really rubbish and feels like its bubbling/stuttering. Its power or get up n go has decreased a lot.

I was quoted by one person just the spark plugs need changing and another stated it also needed the coil pack needed doing along side this adding another £100 to the cost.

My question is does the coil pack HAVE to be done if only the no.3 spark plug code fault is showing up on a diagnostic test thing?

Impossible to say. Might just need new spark plugs, so that should be the first job. If after fitting the new spark plugs there is still a problem then might need one or more new coil packs. That depends on how old the car is. If it's old it will have one coil and a set of HT leads that might need replacing. If it's under 10 years old then it might have individual coil packs for each plug.
