Downsizing for a Isuzu Trooper
Looking to replace our '97 3.1 LWB Isuzu Trooper with smaller, more economical Freelander 2 or Nissan X-Trail or similar. Need to tow 20 foot boat axle weight 1.5 tons. Budget £9000. Your advice please

Freelander 2s are showing some significant problem areas. Better a CR-V 2.2iCTDI if you can find one for £8k, or an old shape X-trail 2.2diesel.

Roomy and versatile. Very comfortable, pleasant and relaxing to drive. not at all cumbersome. 2.2 i-CTDI diesel is excellent.
Bigger than original Freelander. 2.2-litre belt cam diesel. Incredibly good off-road. Robust interior. More fuel efficient 2WD model from 2011 with no rear diff to fail.
Excellent drive on tarmac and very competent off road, large boot, plenty of standard equipment.
