Fault in engine management system

The 'fault in managment system' light cam on in my 2007 (36,000 miles) Ford Focus Diesel. By the time I took it to the garage the light had gone out.

The diagnostics was "clogged particulate filter" £120 bill. The car has regular 'speed trips'(six 30-minute trips per week), and I wondered what was the result of ignoring the warning would be? It seems to be cured by a fast run.

Is there any treatment that can be added to help clean the filter.

If the car does a succession of short runs from cold starts, then that will clog the DPF and as long as it is not too badly clogged it should be regenerated by a 10 - 20 minute run at steady engine speeds above 1,750rpm.
