Replacement Peugeot 508 DPF - maintenance or warranty?

My Peugeot 508 1.6eHDI recently had to be towed to my local dealer for a fault diagnosed as a blocked diesel filter. Although less than two years old and still under warranty the fault was considered to be a maintenance problem and therefore I incurred a bill of £213 for the replacement to be fitted.

I was advised the filter was a sealed unit and there was no alternative other than replacing the faulty component. Do you agree this was a maintenance issue or do you consider it worth contacting Peugeot requesting that the matter be reconsidered. If Peugeot decline to reimburse all or part of the cost, is it worth having the filter independently examined?

Standard problem with diesels fitted with Diesel Particulate Filters used for successive short runs from cold that give the DPF no chance to burn off the soot it has accumulated.
