Engine trouble with a 1996 Astra

My mother-in-law has big problems with her 1996 Astra. A couple of months back the woodruff key in the crankshaft timing pulley wore and sent all the timing up the wall.

After fitting a new pulley and key, everything was fine for a couple of weeks, then the car started to run really really hot, to the point where a short journey to the local shops would start the fan off at around 100 degrees.

Since this the car has lacked power when accelerating, but revs fine when stationary!

I checked pretty much everything I can think of, but drawn a blank! One thing I did notice, however, was a large pool of oil in the MAF sensor, which I presume shouldnt be there.

No there should not be oil in the MAF sensor, need to check all pipes/connections to find out where the leak is from.

As for the engine itself, so have you checked the water pump (is there any coolant loss)? You may want to carry out a compression test on the engine.

It may be advisable to have a diagnostic check carried out in the first instance as this may save time and money in the long term.
