Handing over the V5 for my written off classic?

Our 45 year old classic car unfortunately caught fire. From what the assessor said it looks as if it will be a write-off, but at this stage we are dealing with the Insurance Brokers, the Underwriters and now a third company who are apparently acting for the Underwriters.

They have asked for detailed information on the car, our insurance, driving licences and the circumstances of the incident, which we have given.

Now, however, they are asking for the V5. This is before any offer from the underwriters and I am unhappy to give them anything other than a copy.

Seems very fishy to me. Once they have the V5 they could write the car off and leave you with a pittance. Or they could re-sell the car to an enthusiast and make money out of the situation.
