Engine service light on a Volvo S60

My Volvo S60 has a full service history, but about 500 miles ago the engine system service light kept coming on then going off, etc.

The car drops power slightly for a few secs then drives ok but the light stays on. Any ideas of what is causing this to happen?

If it's a diesel it's the DPF attempting to regenerate. These is a problem with them. See the entry in car by car breakdown at www.honestjohn.co.uk
