Concerns over the DPF on my C-MAX
I have a 1.6TDCI C-MAX on 2011 plate.

The mention of DPF keeps rearing its ugly head. Diesels use less fuel so pollute the planet less (in theory), but as they are now they are fitted with DPFs. My next car will be a petrol, so like for like will polute the planet more. Where is the common sense in that?

I am quite worried about my new C-MAX and I try to use it as little as possible for short runs but even on longer motorway runs in 6th gear at 2,200 rpm the speedo indicates 80mph.

Am I supposed to change down to 5th and drive it at 70 mph, thus increasing my fuel consumption?

There is no common sense and now that 50% of new cars sold in the UK are diesels, mostly sold onto fleets, I predict chaos in the used car trade when these cars are disposed of at 3 - 4 years old and promptly start costing their new owners fortunes in repairs. I have the same engine in a Mazda 5 and it has been no trouble, but that is slightly lower geared at about 30mph/1,000rpm in 6th. Periodically on the motorweay you want to keep it about 2,000rpm.
