Buying a small automatic 4x4

Hi I'm looking for a small automatic 4x4 which is capable of light off road driving (farm tracks, fields etc).

I only drive 6000 miles a year, which is mainly local with a few long journeys. My budget is flexible, around £15K to £22K.

At the lower end of the budget I'm thinking of petrol Toyota Rav4 or Honda CR-V, at the upper end of the budget would be the diesel versions of the above. What else should I be considering? Would an older, larger 4x4 be a better solution?

For your proposed use I rate the RAV-4 2.0 Valvematic Multidrive S as the best option. Surprisingly it is more economical and lower CO2 than the RAV-4 diesel automatic.
