Why is my 2007 Peugeot 307's annual road tax so expensive at £245 per annum?

I would be greatly obliged if you could tell me what is the current amount of road tax due annually on a Peugeot 307 year 2007 1589cc petrol hatchback. The reason I ask is my renewal cost is £245 per annum and I cannot seem to see any other car of comparable size that is charged as much. In fact there doesn't seem to be any reason as to how the DVLA arrive at the amount charged. I do know however they base it on emissions. I cannot believe my Peugeot causes more pollution than, say, a Ford Focus.

I checked for an August 2007 307 1.6 manual and it's £210. The 1.6 auto emits more CO2 and is £245. Readers are increasingly omitting crucial information, usually the year and plate of the car, making their questions difficult to answer. In this case the omission was that the car is automatic.
