Up the creek without a paddleshift

Regrettably, I ignored your advice a couple of years ago and was talked into trading in my E39 525d for an E60 520d. Although it has sufficient power I notice the lack of smooth delivery and am now considering a slightly used F10 525d or perhaps a 530d, even though those nice chaps at Top Gear speak very highly of the current 520d.

Although the 530d is some £4k more expensive than the 525d when new, the used price seems close to that of a 525d, and with more power from the same 3 litre engine and only marginally inferior fuel consumption it seems better value. Is the auto box with sport option and paddle shifts worth the extra?

You often comment on the "downside" of larger wheels and although the standard size is 17", most appear to be fitted with 18" and some with 19". Your advice and observations will be appreciated.

Yes, the autobox with paddles is a good investment for resale. 17s best for ride and rim and tyre life. 18s okay. 19s best avoided.
