I recently purchased an Audi A5 2.0 TSI coupe. My wife uses it to commute to work and it has done 3,285 miles, mostly short journeys of less than 16 miles each), in 3 months. The car has used 2 litres of oil in this time. Is this acceptable or should I return the car to Audi for a check up?

It's not acceptable. Has a lot to do with Audi filling the engine with synthetic longlife oil on the production line, which prevents the engine from running in properly. Consult the dealer about switching to a different oil for 6 months or so to help the oil rings bed in to the bores. The dealer may disagree. But he is legally bound to make the car "of acceptable quality" which it plainly is not as you write.
