Does fitting smaller diameter wheels to a car count as a modification for insurance purposes?

You advised a reader that his BMW wheels were 'oversized' as original equipment and that he would be OK fitting smaller ones. My question is whether fitting the smaller wheels/tyres would count as a modification as far as the insurance company is concerned?

You would need to declare it, but if you are merely reverting to standard specification tyres for the model then that will not put the insurance up.
