Data Unprotected Fact

Is the DVLA in contravention of the Data Protection Act by giving my name and address details to Parkingeye Ltd? This is a private company and the ‘offence’ was not a police matter.

No, because as you will see in the booklet that accompanies your car's V5C the DVLA has been granted a special exemption from the Data Protection Act to sell vehicle keepership details to members of the BPA. The BPA is now lobbying parliament to extend this, making the keeper of the car liable for any penalties for parking on private land or in privately owned carparks, just as the keeper is liable for road traffic offences. Scream loudly about this to your MP.
