Insurance hire car

I have recently been involved in a RTC. 3rd party admited full liability. I had fully comp insurance through Diamond - they instructed Albany Assistance to deal with my claim. I have recieved my settlement cheque and given 5 more days on the hire agreement.

I am really concerned with the reviews/forums I have read online stating if the 3rd party insurers refuse to pay the fee for the hire car, I am liable. Is this correct? On speaking with Albany they inform me I am covered by payment protection cover but don't seem to be able to tell me exactly what that is. I am very unsure about beleiving what albany tell me as I have already had some problems with them.

I do require the vehicle for this week until the cover is up however I feel like getting them to collect the vehicle tomorrow instead and coping without the hire car; as I am really concerned with what I've read online.

Yes, if it's a credit hire car you are liable, but the way they structure these, victims very rarely have to pay. May mean a court appearance while the insurers fight it out. An unpleasant trap to be in.
