Stolen number plate

I have come down this morning to find that the nuber plates on my car have been stolen. I assume they have been stolen by someone up to no good! Apart from reporting to the Police, is there anything else i should be doing. Am I in for many months of hassle as i try and prove that my car was not involved in whatever activity the plates were stolen for. Am I going to end up with a load of fines etc in the months to come.

Yes, get the registration number changed so that whoever is using the number stands a good chance of getting picked up by an ANPR check.
