Fiddly fuel filler

I recently bought a Ford Ka "Studio" and have serious problems when trying to refuel the car, due to the design of the lockable filler cap.

The problem is that the filler cap spins continuously and hence requires 2 hands when either removing or replacing the cap; one hand the hold the cap in a fixed position and the other to operate the key.

With my severely arthritic hands and the limited space available, I find it difficult to operate and on several occasions have had to seek the assistance of garage owners or other "able-bodied" motorists to remove and/or replace the cap. They too have encountered difficulties and commented on the poor design.

I have spoken to Ford, who tell me that there is no alternative filler cap.

I wonder if you are aware of any alternative filler cap that I might find to be easier to operate; it need not necessarily be lockable.

That is a FIAT design of filler cap (because the Ka is really a FIAT) that has been around since the 128 model of 1971. What I would do is use a rag or a soft rubber ball to hold the spinning cap in place while you turn the key.
